We took a couple of BD’s new quickdraws with us last weekend, the Hotwire (Positron w/ Hotwire) and Firewire (two Hotwires), and boy were we impressed. Even though the new biners are much lighter, they are the same full size as the old Hotwire and still retain a very solid and reassuring feel, unlike many other ultralight biners. Sporting a well hooded nose to protect the gate from opening against the rock, the lines are elegant and sexy. With the attractive package comes great gate action, easy to clipping, large rope bearing radius, and even a lower price tag than last year. If you’re looking for a full-size wiregate, the new Hotwire is definitely best-in-class.
