Despite the occasional negative review sprinkled in among the positive ones, I decided to order one of these towels to see whether or not it resolved my search for an ultra absorbent towel, to speed up drying when getting out of the shower.
Based on other suggestions in reviews found under this and other colors (I don’t know why Amazon does not group all reviews together since color rarely if ever affects quality and construction), I ordered one knowing that Amazon stands behind everything with no argument on returns.
I am not in the least bit disappointed, and will pass on my personal experience with this towel compared with what was said in the negative reviews:
1) The first thing I did after unpacking the towel was to machine-wash it in COLD water, my “bargain” Purex detergent and NO fabric softener. I don’t know what if anything may have gone down the drain, but I can tell you that there was no even a single strand of fiber in my washer after I removed it.
2) Then I dried the towel in my dryer, but I did NOT put in my usual sheet of Bounce, based on the advice from other satisfied purchasers. When I took it out of the dryer, there was no more lint in the lint filter than I usually get washing old towels – minimal, and no loose fiber.
3) Then I took my shower and used the towel to dry off. Again, my experience was nothing like the complaint elsewhere of fiber sticking to my body. I know what it is like to have fiber cling to me, especially my hairy arms and chest, when using a new towel the first few times, but I could not find a single fiber clinging to my body after drying off with this towel – nada. And since I purchased one of the darkest colors – Panda Grey – which is almost black, I’m sure I would have seen such fibers on my person if there were any.
Was the towel thicker or thinner than my other towels? Frankly, I didn’t think about that or pay any attention to it – all I know is that this towel is extremely soft, and extremely absorbent. I was able to dry off every part of my body with a single pass of the towel, unlike my other towels. Maybe it’s not as thick? – all I know is that it is more absorbent.
Therefore, I highly recommend this towel, and just to play it safe, I will continue to use cold water and NO fabric softener to wash and dry it, as others have recommended.
Maybe that’s the secret.

These towels, which I have now washed several times, are the fluffiest, most thirsty blend of soft, thick fibers I have come across–sort of what you fantasize a towel should be (and mostly isn’t). I didn’t know what “modal” was so I thought I’d try one towel since my own designer towels are flat and not as absorbent as claimed. I am totally sold on these–will eventually be replacing all my towels with these modal/silk/cotton ones. (Amazon has the cheapest prices–I checked. In our store here the price is for a bath sheet. )

I have been using these towels for at least five years . . . they are amazing and unrivaled. I keep going back for more given they are the softest and most comfortable towel I have ever used.
These towels hold their color as long as no bleach is used during washing. They are super absorbent and remain absorbent throughout the life of the towel. Softness actually INCREASES with use as my older towels are softer than my newer towels.
As with any towel, remember to NOT use fabric softener or else the towel will not be very absorbent (and it won’t be as soft). Fabric softener and silk just don’t seem to get along.
And remember, don’t use bleach or your towels will change color and their trademark softness will go away pretty quickly.
I’ve also found these towels should be washed (and dried) about three times before using them for the first time – this makes them softer and more absorbent and keeps towel lint from firmly attaching itself to your body.

WOW, This is my first product review ever, and I can’t believe Im writing about a towel. But this is it, soft, absorbant and not 2″ thick. I have had these towels for nearly two years. Still soft and as absorbant as the day we bought them. The only bath towels I will use from now on.
EDIT/UPDATE — 3yrs later (Dec 2008) still using these towels have purchased more so the originals though still around are not used daily but still in use and love them.
